Father killed daughter over argument about alcohol, police say
An 80-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his daughter Friday night over an argument about alcohol, police said. See more.....
"Our preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, a 37-year-old black female, and the suspect who is believed to be the victim's father were involved in a verbal altercation because the suspect wanted the victim to purchase alcoholic beverages for him and she refused," Birmingham Police Department's Lt. Scott Thurmond said Saturday.
BPD has not released names of the suspect or victim pending next of kin notifications.
Around 10:15 p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to 2120 Pike Road in the Ensley neighborhood.
They found the body of a 37-year-old woman inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thurmond said the father was inside the house sitting at the kitchen table when police arrived.
A neighbor said the man taken in custody was the victim's father. The neighbor also said the victim has a15-year-old daughter, who was at the scene at the time of the shooting and was visibly upset when police arrived.
